Ghanaian ride-hailing service, Chowdeck, debuts, offering incentives to both drivers and passengers

Chowdeck, a Nigerian-born on-demand delivery platform, has made its first move into the African continent with its launch in Ghana, specifically in Accra. The expansion, which began in May 2025, is part of a broader pan-African growth strategy [1][2][3].

To ensure quality service, Chowdeck has implemented a comprehensive rider training program. This program covers app usage, professionalism, customer service, and delivery quality. To further motivate and support riders, Chowdeck has introduced "Rider Games," a performance-based reward system. Riders can earn cash bonuses and even loans up to GHS 1,000 based on their activity levels [1].

On the customer side, Chowdeck has introduced a customer referral program. New customers can receive GHS 10 off their first and second orders via referrals. Additionally, the platform has implemented a tiered "ChowScore" loyalty system. This system provides free deliveries and exclusive discounts to frequent users [1].

Initially, Chowdeck's operations in Accra include neighborhoods such as Osu, Cantonments, Labone, Airport, Dzorwulu, East Legon, Madina, Adenta, Oyarifa, and Abokobi. The platform is focusing on food delivery, partnering with local vendors to boost the local food delivery experience. Customers can order food, groceries, and household items with an average 30-minute delivery [1].

Henry Whyte, Head of Operations for Chowdeck Ghana, stated, "We're here to raise the bar—supporting merchants, empowering consumers, and creating well-paid jobs." Femi Aluko, CEO of Chowdeck, added, "This expansion is more than just growth—it's about building infrastructure for commerce and convenience across the continent" [1].

Ghana's digital economy is primed for growth, with 87% of consumers accessing food delivery via mobile. Digital transactions in Ghana are projected to hit $2.35B by 2025 [1]. This expansion is a testament to Chowdeck's commitment to bringing convenience and economic opportunities to the African continent.
