Google and Samsung Need to Improve on This Crucial Razr Ultra Lack: [no explicit improvement specified]

Hey there! Let's kick it off by discussing the latest scoop on Android's mobile tech space through our website's weekly column, Editor's Desk. This time, we're diving into the buzz surrounding the AI button, a feature that's becoming increasingly popular on smartphones.

The AI button on Motorola's Razr Ultra 2025 was a much-anticipated addition, but its implementation leaves a lot to be desired. I was hoping it would open a world of possibilities, acting as an easy access point for AI features packed into Motorola's Moto AI suite. Unfortunately, it seems more like an afterthought that doesn't hold a candle to competitors like Google or Samsung. But, hey, it's a decent first step, right?

Motorola's attempt at spinning AI with their own Moto AI chatbot is impressive, but it's not quite up to par with the offerings from Google and Samsung. You can customize the AI Key to trigger the Moto AI overlay with a long press, but it's the only option available—a clear oversight. It would be great if we could set it to another digital assistant, considering all the options Motorola has packed into the Razr Ultra 2025.

When I press the AI Key to trigger Moto AI, I need to press the mic button to talk to it. This differs from how Google's Gemini functions, since it automatically starts listening when triggered, making it much more user-friendly. It feels like an unnecessary extra step with the AI Key.

This issue might stem from Moto AI analyzing what's on your screen when triggered, allowing it to provide suggestions. Still, I think it could analyze and still let me talk to it at the same time. This would make the AI Key so much more accessible and align with how Gemini functions.

Samsung took the right approach with their AI button in the past, offering users some level of customization. It was easy to set a gesture (either single tap or double tap) to open an app of choice or trigger a Routine, while the other option would be used for Samsung's Bixby. Users even had the freedom to bypass Bixby entirely using third-party apps like Tasker.

Future phones, including the Pixel, would benefit from an AI button to further elevate the Android user experience. Google should learn from the lessons of Motorola and others to enhance the Pixel's AI capabilities.

In a nutshell, smartphones could greatly profit from a dedicated AI button if developed with intuitive design, customization, and on-device AI capabilities in mind. It's up to manufacturers to use these insights and innovate for a better mobile experience!
