Google's $4B 'Project Pyramid' Data Center in Arkansas to Create Thousands of Jobs
Google has officially greenlit 'Project Pyramid,' a $4 billion hyperscale data center in West Memphis, Arkansas. The tech giant is set to build a sprawling meta-campus spanning nearly 1,200 acres, featuring five data centers and office space. This significant investment in the southern United States is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to the region.
The infinite-campus will be equipped with cutting-edge cloud and AI infrastructure, along with initiatives to bolster local energy resilience. Google will collaborate with Entergy to implement demand-response strategies, curbing energy consumption during peak times. Entergy Arkansas will supply power to the facility, ensuring robust energy infrastructure.
The project, named 'Project Pyramid,' also includes a large-scale solar power facility and battery storage system. This 600-MW solar plant and 350-MW battery system, approved by the Arkansas Public Service Commission, will support the data center's energy needs. Meta Platforms, Inc., under its subsidiary Groot LLC, is behind this ambitious project.
The data center infinite-campus will occupy about 580 acres of the site, with five large-scale data center buildings and an on-site substation. This significant investment is expected to create up to 300 permanent jobs and an estimated 5,000-plus construction jobs. Moreover, it could generate roughly $120 million in property tax revenues for the local school system.
