In a groundbreaking move, Google has unveiled a new AI Mode on its web search, which can be accessed via a button on the homepage. This innovative feature aims to revolutionize the search experience by introducing multiple interactive and intuitive elements.

The new AI Mode supports multimodal inputs, allowing users to ask complex questions not only through text and voice, but also by uploading images. This integration enables AI Mode to interpret and respond to images for richer search results.

One of the key features of the AI Mode is the Canvas planning tool. This side panel allows users to organise information, take notes, and build multi-session study plans or project outlines. For instance, students can create study plans for exams or researchers can organise notes with iterative AI assistance to refine the content over time.

The AI Mode also integrates Search Live, a feature that brings real-time video input to the search experience. This integration with Google Lens and Project Astra allows users to share live video feed for additional context and receive AI responses in real time. Users can interact with the AI while it processes the live video, making the search experience dynamic and conversational.

Google's new AI Mode is powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, the company's most intelligent AI model. This advanced model delivers deeper reasoning, complex analysis, and synthesizing information from numerous sub-queries into a comprehensive, conversational response. This model improves complex problem-solving such as math, coding, and detailed research.

In the coming weeks, PDF support will be added to the AI Mode, allowing users to upload documents and ask questions directly within Search. Users will also be able to point their camera at an object, ask questions, and receive AI-generated responses based on live visual context. The system will analyse the file, cross-reference information from the web, and return detailed AI-generated responses along with relevant source links.

With these new features, Google's AI Mode shifts the search paradigm from a simple query-response system to a multimodal, conversational, and deeply interactive tool. This tool combines visual input, document understanding, real-time video context, and advanced planning, aimed at providing more customized and actionable answers.
