Google's latest update for Photos allows transforming photos into videos, sketches, and additional formats.
Google Photos has announced the introduction of new AI-powered creative features, transforming the platform into a creative hub for users. The latest updates aim to offer more options for photo manipulation and video creation.
The most notable addition is the **Photo to Video** feature, which turns your still photos into short, six-second animated video clips. Users can choose from options like "subtle movement" for gentle animation or "I'm feeling lucky" for more imaginative effects such as confetti or other playful actions surrounding the subject in the photo. The videos include visual watermarks for transparency and an invisible digital watermark called SynthID.
Another exciting feature is the **Remix** tool, which allows users to transform photos into new artistic styles such as anime, comics, sketches, or 3D animations, enabling creative reinterpretations of images in seconds.
To make these tools more accessible, Google has introduced a new centralised hub called the **Create tab**. This tab will house all creative tools like Photo to video, Remix, collages, and highlight videos, consolidating all these generative AI features in one place.
These updates, which leverage Google’s Veo 2 AI video generation model, represent an experimental phase. Google encourages user feedback to improve the features and make the platform even more user-friendly.
The Remix feature and the overall AI upgrades are starting to roll out in the U.S. on both Android and iOS devices within the next few weeks from late July 2025. The Create tab is expected to begin rolling out in the U.S. in August 2025.
These updates mark a significant step in Google Photos' evolution into a creative space, providing users with an array of tools to transform their photos and videos into works of art.
These new updates to Google Photos include the "Photo to Video" feature, which transforms your still photos into short, animated video clips, as well as the "Remix" tool that converts photos into various artistic styles like anime, comics, sketches, or 3D animations. Both these features are examples of how this platform is embracing technology, particularly smartphones and gadgets, to become a creative hub for users.
