Google's New Smart Display with Camera Coming in Spring 2026
Google is set to launch a new smart display in spring 2026, potentially named the Google Home Depot. This comes after the tech giant hinted at a next-generation device with AI-powered Gemini features, replacing the Nest Hub. The new display is expected to include a camera, a departure from the 2021 Nest Hub.
Last week, Google introduced new smart surveillance cameras and a smart speaker, but held back on announcing a successor to the Nest Hub. The company has explored alternative smart home control devices like the Pixel Tablet and Google TV Streamer, but they did not serve as full-fledged smart home hubs. Google Home's Chief Product Officer Anish Kattukaran reassured customers that the company has not abandoned the smart display product category.
Meanwhile, Amazon is aggressively expanding its AI chatbot Alexa Plus with a wide range of new smart home devices, set to be released in late October in the US. The company has confirmed that Alexa Plus will eventually be available in Germany, although the timeline is unclear.
