HashKey's Xiao Feng & Vitalik Buterin Launch Ethereum Applications League
Ethereum Applications League (EAL), a new initiative aimed at boosting local Ethereum applications, was launched on October 2, 2025, by HashKey Group Chairman Xiao Feng and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. The league seeks to shift Ethereum development towards user-centric applications, particularly in DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and gaming sectors.
EAL, not a foundation or accelerator, is a hub built on the Shanghaiwu project initiated by Xiao Feng in 2023. It aims to create an open, transparent, and scalable collaborative environment to accelerate the creation and deployment of local Ethereum applications. Despite being in its initial idea stage, EAL is already open to international collaboration with various entities such as ETH treasury companies, Layer2 groups, developer communities, protocol organizations, and connector institutions.
Ethereum, with a market value of approximately $500 billion and its local token trading around $4,180 as of October 2025, has a significant presence in the decentralized finance sector. Its locked value in DeFi ranges from $50-60 billion, with daily transactions averaging around 1.2 million. Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum's co-founder, is a driving force behind the upcoming proof-of-stake transition and advocates for global adoption of decentralized applications.
EAL, led by Xiao Feng and Vitalik Buterin, is poised to transform Ethereum development by fostering a user-centric approach. Despite being in its early stages, it has the potential to significantly impact the Ethereum ecosystem and its various sectors, including DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and gaming.
