Herford Police Crack Down on E-Scooter Offenses After Bünde Accident
In a bid to enhance traffic safety and prevent accidents involving electric micro-vehicles, the Herford police have implemented a mix of preventive and repressive measures. On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, they conducted a district-wide inspection in Herford and Bünde, following an e-scooter accident in Bünde the previous day that injured three people.
The inspection revealed a high number of violations. Out of 100 vehicles checked, 60 offenses were detected. These included using unauthorized areas, riding double, cycling against traffic in bike lanes, using smartphones while operating, underage use by children under 14, and compulsory insurance law offenses. Such misconduct often leads to serious accidents, as seen in the Bünde incident. The police are now stepping up their efforts to ensure compliance with traffic rules and promote safer use of these vehicles.
The Herford police's targeted inspection has highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules involving electric micro-vehicles. With the increasing popularity of these vehicles, ensuring safety on the roads is paramount. The police are committed to preventing accidents and maintaining order, as demonstrated by their recent actions.
