Huawei's partner, Aito, hints at an upgraded M7 Sports Utility Vehicle model
The automotive brand Aito is gearing up for an exciting autumn, teasing the release of the updated M7 SUV and the launch of Huawei's M8 BEV variant.
The new M7 SUV, scheduled for release in September 2025, promises a fresh look with a coral red exterior colour. This updated model shares design elements with the Aito M8, featuring a more rounded front end, muscular sculpting, and aggressive headlights. The M7 also incorporates a lidar unit supporting Huawei’s Advanced Driving System (ADS) and is expected to use Huawei’s Turing platform with increased dimensions compared to the previous model.
The updated M7 will offer both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) drivetrains, with seating configurations of either 5 or 6 seats anticipated. Aito has focused on creating a family-oriented lifestyle, offering ample storage and emphasising the SUV's versatility.
First launched on July 4, 2022, the original M7 was based on the Dongfeng Fengon ix7 platform with an initial price around 319,800 yuan. Since then, Aito has released updates, including a price cut in late 2023 that boosted sales, the introduction of the M7 Ultra in May 2024, and the Pro series in August 2024. Despite strong sales in 2023, the M7 experienced a 71% sales decline in the first half of 2025, which the new model aims to reverse.
In addition to the M7, Huawei is set to launch the M8 BEV variant, presumably the electric version of the M8. The launch date for the M8 BEV is set for August. This collaboration between Huawei and Seres Group, who jointly developed the automotive brand Aito, continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology.
Aito has shared several images of the updated M7 SUV as part of a warming up campaign, giving fans a sneak peek of what's to come. The anticipation is building as we approach the September release, with the updated M7 SUV poised to reinvigorate sales and set new standards in the electric SUV market.
