In the rapidly evolving electric vehicle (EV) market, two significant players are gearing up for a potential showdown. iQiyi EV, the car-making arm of the popular Chinese streaming platform, has announced its second EV model, the YU7 SUV, while Tesla has unveiled the facelifted version of its popular Model Y.

The YU7 SUV, unveiled on an unspecified date, is expected to launch in June or July 2025. According to its filing, the YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. However, details such as powertrain, battery range, and pricing have yet to be broadly publicized.

In contrast, the facelifted Model Y, launched in China today, offers a range of approximately 330 to 330+ miles (530+ km) on the Long Range version. The vehicle is powered by dual electric motors with peak power of 220 kW and 288 kW for the front and rear motors respectively. The Long-Range All-Wheel-Drive version comes with a battery pack with a capacity of 78.4 kWh, boasting a CLTC range of 719 kilometers, which Tesla claims is the longest range for a Model Y.

Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of iQiyi, hinted that the YU7 SUV is more competitive in the face of the Model Y refresh. Lei Jun, who has 25 million followers on Weibo, has been actively engaging with the EV industry, even sharing a screenshot of a portion of Tesla's WeChat post on Weibo, writing "Ok."

While the YU7's specifications and pricing are yet to be officially revealed, more than 135,000 units of iQiyi EV's first EV model, the SU7, were delivered in 2024. The iQiyi EV's YU7 SUV weighs 2,405 kg, and it is expected to be a formidable contender in the EV market.
