Ibbenbüren Resident Loses Thousands in Investment Scam
A 55-year-old resident of Ibbenbüren has fallen victim to investment scammers, losing a substantial amount of money. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was lured in by promises of high profits on investment platforms. The victim responded to an ad on social media and was contacted by someone claiming to be an employee of a company. He was initially asked to transfer a mid-four-digit euro amount in two installments. Later, when he tried to withdraw his money, he was told he had to pay another mid-four-digit amount for it. The police warn that such demands for increasingly higher amounts should raise suspicion. The man was then offered to invest in cryptocurrency and transferred another low five-digit euro amount. He was also asked to pay a low three-digit sum and verify himself via a link sent to him using a pass. After some time, he saw that his investment account showed a very high balance, but it was later revealed to be a scam. The 55-year-old resident of Ibbenbüren has been defrauded by investment scammers, highlighting the need for caution when dealing with such offers. The police advise being suspicious if an offer seems too good to be true or if increasingly higher amounts are requested.
