Immersive Audio Experience: Museum of the Bible's Achievement of 360-Degree Surround Sound
The Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., has introduced an immersive worship experience called "All Creation Sings." This 45-minute installation, inspired by Psalm 148, features a 100x60-foot space that surrounds visitors with interactive biblical storytelling. At the heart of the exhibit's surround experience is the L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive sound technology.
L-ISA technology, known for its spatial audio system, creates a hyperreal, multi-dimensional sound environment. It achieves this by using spatial mixing techniques that position sound elements in a three-dimensional sound field, offering precise control over sound movement, depth, and location. This immersive audio approach helps to reinforce the exhibit’s narrative and thematic impact, making visitors feel enveloped by the soundscape.
James Rudder, L-ISA application engineer at L-Acoustics, used an L-ISA Processor II for onsite spatial mixing in All Creation Sings. The installation includes 16 X8i coaxial loudspeakers, four KS21 subs, and seven LA2Xi amplified controllers. Each LA2Xi amplified controller drives four loudspeakers, with a unique feed sent to each speaker to supply the immersive effect.
The visual spectacle of All Creation Sings uses 360-degree projection mapping and LiDAR sensors for interactive, generative effects. The exhibit's sound quality throughout the entire space feels warm, moving, and engaging. Skylark AV handled the installation of all the projectors, LiDAR cameras, and technical gear for All Creation Sings.
Skylark AV also demonstrated that an L-Acoustics solution for All Creation Sings wouldn't add a significant cost, making it a viable option. Joel Conrad, Museum of the Bible IT interactive systems manager, was impressed with the sound quality of L-Acoustics loudspeakers in All Creation Sings. He even declared it as one of the coolest things he has ever experienced.
The final mix in All Creation Sings was done in-room by Skylark AV and L-Acoustics, ensuring a perfect match with the visuals. The implementation of L-ISA technology in All Creation Sings opened up new possibilities for immersive audio in a wide range of venues and applications. Meptik, based in Atlanta, designed the visual spectacle for All Creation Sings.
The X8i speakers, used in the installation, have a low-profile design and produce a robust low-frequency response. The immersive playback option of L-ISA technology is suitable for a fixed environment where the audio content doesn't change, making it an ideal choice for All Creation Sings. L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive sound technology contributes significantly to the interactive exhibit "All Creation Sings," providing visitors with an engaging and realistic audio experience.
