Instagram Brings Location Sharing to Europe, Prioritizing Privacy
Instagram has expanded its location-sharing feature to users in Germany and Europe, following its US launch two months ago. The photo and video platform, owned by Meta, now lets users share their my location within the app, with enhanced privacy controls.
Users can now choose who to share their my location with, or exclude specific locations. The feature is off by default, requiring users to enable it manually. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed that users' my location will not be published without their consent, addressing previous misunderstandings. This European rollout includes improvements based on US user feedback. Rival app Snapchat has offered a similar location-sharing feature for some time.
