Intel enlisted by Nokia to integrate AI in data center operations.
Nokia Announces New AI and Data Intelligence Unit
Nokia, the Finnish telecommunications giant, has announced its intention to compete with network companies like Ciena Corp by leveraging the growth of artificial intelligence (AI). According to the company's CEO, Justin Hotard, this integration will help expand the customer base and reduce telecom operators' costs.
In a significant move, Nokia has appointed Pallavi Mahajan to head a newly created tech and AI unit, the "AI and Data Intelligence" unit. Mahajan, who previously served as Vice President and Director of AI and Data Centers at Intel, will join Nokia's executive team on October 1.
The new division at Nokia will work closely with the Network Infrastructure unit on data center connection technologies. This strategic alignment is expected to drive innovation and efficiency in Nokia's AI and data-related offerings.
Meanwhile, Nishant Batra, the current head of technology and strategy at Nokia, will step down at the end of September. His departure marks a shift in the company's leadership as it embarks on this new journey.
The appointment of Pallavi Mahajan and the creation of the new tech and AI unit were reported by Bloomberg. The new unit at Nokia also includes the Nokia Bell Labs R&D Center, further emphasising the company's commitment to cutting-edge research and development.
Nokia plans to integrate AI technologies into data centers, a move that is expected to revolutionise the way telecom operators manage and utilise their news. This strategy aligns with the global trend towards digital transformation, where AI and data intelligence are becoming increasingly crucial.
With the addition of Pallavi Mahajan and the creation of the AI and Data Intelligence unit, Nokia is positioning itself to be a key player in the AI-driven future of telecommunications. The company's ambitious plans are a testament to its commitment to innovation and its desire to stay at the forefront of technological advancements.
