Internal Market Compatibility Assessed Positively for Aid Measure

Bremen North, a leisure destination under the Bremen umbrella, has recently undergone an evaluation to identify drivers and barriers in its development. The evaluation, conducted by the strategy and organizational consultancy Heinze and Partner, engaged participants from Bremen North, the WFB Economic Development, and senatorial authorities.

The overall development of Bremen North as a leisure destination is perceived as slightly positive. However, not all of the hoped-for effects of FuNK measures have been achieved yet, according to Maike Frese, State Councilor for Economics. Some notable changes include the relocation of the "Schulschiff Deutschland" and the closure of the Strandlust in Bremen North, as well as the cancellation of events such as the harbor festival.

The evaluation aimed to provide insights into the current state of Bremen North and suggest potential adjustments to the strategic orientation. One key recommendation is a more intensive interlocking of FuNK 2.0 with other concepts for Bremen North and the entire city. This could help to strengthen networking between different actors and improve the overall leisure offerings.

Participants in the evaluation have criticized the current traffic situation with many construction sites, including on the A270. This issue was highlighted as a potential barrier to attracting and retaining visitors to Bremen North.

In a positive note, the open-air cinema LUX Freilicht is now attracting people to the north, and Bremen North is presented regionally through integration into city-wide campaigns. The central coordination office set up at the WFB, which is intended to strengthen networking between different actors, was positively evaluated.

The goal of the evaluation was to identify opportunities for improvement and potential target groups for more focused engagement. It is planned to intensively engage with the results of the evaluation to potentially examine these areas more closely and adjust the strategic orientation accordingly.

The responsibility for further development of the strategy for the leisure destination Bremen North lies with the steering groups for the tourism strategy of the city and state of Bremen. These groups regularly review, further develop, and adapt the strategies together with stakeholders from the leisure and tourism sector during an annual state tourism forum. A basic funding has been established for FuNK measures and has been secured year after year so far.

Frese has suggested that change requires a long time and that action across departments is necessary. The planned adjustments to the strategic orientation for Bremen North as a leisure destination reflect this understanding, with a focus on intensifying collaboration and adjusting offers to better meet the needs and preferences of local and nearby target groups.
