Introduced: Registration System for Migrant Laborers in Digital Format
The Department of Employment in Thailand has unveiled a new digital system for processing migrant workers' employment permits, marking a significant step forward in modernizing and streamlining work permit services for foreign workers in the country.
The fully digitised platform, set to begin operations on September 1, 2025, allows users to register online, submit applications 24/7, pay fees, and track progress in real time. Key processes such as application acceptance, employment notifications, and permit issuance will be outsourced to the private sector, under strict government oversight to ensure good governance and protect labor rights.
Identity verification will be conducted using biometric technologies, including fingerprint and iris scans, to enhance security. Approved applicants can schedule appointments to collect their permits at one of 40 service centers nationwide or via eight mobile units for added convenience.
The new system is part of the department's efforts to adapt to evolving labor dynamics and aligns with Thailand’s 20-Year National Strategy and the government’s digital transformation policy. The initiative aims to reduce bureaucratic burdens for the public, providing continuous online access to services and real-time updates, and benefits the private sector by enabling them to contribute to more efficient, transparent, and cost-effective service delivery.
The outsourcing service project was launched at a press briefing attended by the Ministry of Labour, foreign embassies, government agencies, and the private sector. The project is intended to ensure good governance and the protection of labor rights, making it easier for migrant workers to navigate the employment permit process and work legally in Thailand.
