Latest Developments in the Automotive Industry: BAIC's Expansion and Saab Models' Legacy
In the dynamic world of automobiles, Beijing Auto (BAIC) has been making significant strides. The latest addition to their lineup is the BAIC Beijing BJ30 SUV, which has recently been spotted on the road.
Interestingly, the platform for the BJ30 is not new. BAIC Motor, the parent company of BAIC, had previously purchased the platforms for the Saab 9-3 and 9-5 from General Motors. This purchase was made before Spyker took over Saab.
The SAAB 9-3 and 9-5 models that BAIC acquired underwent modifications. The 9-3 did not undergo as much change as its bigger sibling, the 9-5, which formed the basis for the C71 model that was displayed at a show. The C71 was significantly altered compared to the original 9-5, with the C60 also being a variation of the 9-5. Both the C60 and C71 share the same 2.0 Turbo engine.
In a separate development, the BAIC BJ60 has already been launched in China. This model comes equipped with a 4WD, a powerful 267 HP engine, and a starting price of 33,500 USD.
However, it's worth noting that the new BAW-factory, where these models might be produced, is not yet ready. It is expected to be operational within approximately a year.
In intriguing news, interior photos of Beijing Motor's upcoming coupe, the Arcfox Alpha S5, have been exposed.
Despite these advancements, no new information about the Saab 9-3, 9-5, C60, or C71 was provided in this update. The 'made in Sweden'-Saabs continue to be a part of automotive history, their legacy preserved in these models.
Stay tuned for more updates as these developments unfold!
