Investment Firm Biome finalizes first funding round, pledging INR 100 crores to collaborate with new startups
Biome Venture Studio Launches as India's Full-Service Startup Launchpad
Biome Venture Studio, a newly established venture studio based in India, has announced the successful first close of its capital raise of ₹100 crore. With this funding, Biome aims to co-create, launch, and scale early-stage startups, providing comprehensive support beyond just funding.
The studio, part of an international franchise of the Media brand, follows a hands-on, builder-first approach. Biome partners deeply with experienced founders from the ground up, co-creating startups, offering full operational support in product development, hiring, marketing, and day-to-day operations. This sets Biome apart from traditional investors, who often only provide financial resources.
The AI startup is led by a globally recognized AI scientist, and the round drew support from top-tier entrepreneurs and influential family offices, including those of Raj Phani of Zaggle, Aditya Vuchi of MediaMint, and the Phoenix Group. Investors in the round also include BVR Mohan Reddy, founder of Cyient, Prasad Yerneni of Ecoren Energy, and Abhinav Reddy, managing director at GAR Corp.
Biome's commitment goes beyond funding, aiming to build ventures rooted in operational rigor and long-term vision. The studio supports startups from ideation to execution, and it embeds teams of experts-including product leaders, growth strategists, and domain specialists-into each startup.
Early examples demonstrating Biome’s model include ventures such as Zoop.Money, a digital home loan platform, and a stealth-mode US-based AI startup led by a global AI expert. Biome's approach emphasizes working on globally relevant challenges while maintaining a strong foundation of governance and sustainability.
Srinivas Kollipara, Managing Partner at Biome, stated that the studio doesn't just invest, but co-creates from the ground level. Madhu Poomalil, Co-founder and former executive at DE Shaw and Arcesium, added that Biome's goal is to turn transformative ideas into thriving enterprises.
Biome was founded by a team including Kaustubh Patekar, Zara Bhagwagar, Kollipara, and Poomalil. The studio follows a selective model, co-founding up to three ventures a year. With the capital raise, Biome is positioning itself as a launchpad for the next wave of high-impact, scalable, and globally competitive startups from India.
