ISRO's LVM3 to Make Commercial Debut with OneWeb Satellites Launch
India's space agency, ISRO, is set to make its commercial launch debut with the heavy-lift rocket LVM3. The launch, scheduled for October 23, will carry 36 broadband satellites for British startup OneWeb. This mission marks a significant step for ISRO in the global commercial launch service market.
The LVM3, previously known as GSLV Mk III, is a three-stage rocket designed for heavy payloads. It features two strong motor strap-ons, a fluid propellant core stage, and a cryogenic stage. This robust design allows it to launch a four-tonne payload into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
The launch will be conducted from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at 0007 hrs IST. ISRO has signed launch service agreements with OneWeb for this mission. Notably, Bharti Enterprises, a significant investor and shareholder in OneWeb, is an Indian company. This launch is a testament to the growing collaboration between Indian and international space entities.
The LVM3's launch of OneWeb's satellites is a milestone for ISRO, marking its entry into the global commercial launch service market. This mission, supported by Bharti Enterprises, strengthens India's position in the international space industry.
