Japan's Digital Agency Teams Up With OpenAI for Government AI Tools in 2026

OpenAI is taking steps to ensure its AI services meet Japanese government security standards. It is pursuing certification under the Information System Security Management and Assessment Program (ISMAP), managed by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and relevant regulatory bodies. Once certified, the Digital Agency will make these AI services available to other government agencies, after ensuring information system security.
