Judge Upholds Pentagon's DJI Blacklist Ban Amid Drone Photography Boom

A federal judge has upheld the Pentagon's decision to keep DJI on its military-linked Chinese firms blacklist, dismissing the company's lawsuit. Meanwhile, searches for 'drone photography' have skyrocketed, with Uber announcing a drone delivery service using Flytrex's technology. Amidst dwindling DJI drone supplies, scammers are exploiting eager buyers.

The ruling against DJI means the company remains barred from U.S. military contracts. This comes as interest in drone photography surges, with August 2025 seeing a 122% increase in searches compared to the previous year.

Uber has entered the drone delivery scene, partnering with Flytrex to integrate its FAA-authorized beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) drones with Uber Eats' platform. This allows for expanded delivery capabilities.

Mark McGee, renowned for his DJI Mini 5 Pro videos, has praised the drone's upgrades and video quality in his latest YouTube review. Similarly, cinematographer Denis Barbas has released a stunning drone reel shot entirely on the DJI Mini 5 Pro, showcasing its improved dynamic range, stabilization, and low-light performance in challenging conditions from misty forests to near the North Pole.

As genuine DJI drones become scarce, scammers are capitalizing on the demand. Fake online shops and social media listings are popping up, targeting desperate buyers.

The federal judge's ruling keeps DJI off-limits to U.S. military contracts. Meanwhile, public interest in drone photography continues to grow, and Uber's drone delivery service expands consumer access. Despite the popularity of DJI drones, consumers should be wary of scams exploiting the current supply shortage.
