Kia EVs Gain Access to Tesla Superchargers: A Game-Changer for Long-Distance Travel

In a groundbreaking move, Kia has partnered with Tesla to enable its electric vehicles (EVs) to access the Tesla Supercharger network in North America. This partnership will allow Kia EV owners to charge their vehicles on one of the largest and fastest charging networks in the region.

Starting with the 2025 Kia EV6 and the upcoming 2026 EV9, Kia will transition to the North American Charging Standard (NACS) as its charging standard. These models will come equipped with NACS ports, ensuring native compatibility with Tesla Superchargers. For Kia Niro EV owners, an adapter will be available from local dealerships to access the Tesla Supercharger network.

Once the vehicles receive a software update, charging payments and session management will be handled seamlessly through the Kia Connect app. This app also provides live data on charger availability, pricing, and status, making it easier for Kia EV owners to plan their journeys.

The Kia Access App now includes Superchargers in its search, locate, and navigate options, further enhancing the user experience. This switch from the CCS charging standard to NACS is part of Kia's strategy to expand convenient charging options, especially leveraging Tesla's extensive and rapidly growing Supercharger network in the U.S.

The 2025 Kia EV6, with its 800-volt electrical architecture, supports fast charging at rates up to 240 kW on compatible CCS or Tesla Superchargers. This high charging speed will significantly reduce charging times, making long-distance travel more convenient for Kia EV owners.

In a recent development, Kia America has acknowledged marketing posts by certain Nordic distributors that were not authorized by Kia America, Kia Europe, or Kia Global. Kia America has clarified that these posts do not reflect their position and remains committed to clear and professional communication that reflects their values.

This partnership between Kia and Tesla is a significant step towards a more integrated EV charging ecosystem, offering Kia EV owners a wider range of charging options and improving long-distance travel convenience. With access to over 40,000 DC fast chargers in North America and over 21,500 Tesla Superchargers in Canada and the United States, Kia EV owners can now travel further with ease.
