Kommunarka Factory Faces Criticism Over Sweet Changes Amid Global Chocolate Crisis
The 'Kommunarka' factory, known for its wide range of sweets, has faced criticism recently due to changes in its products. While some classic sweets maintain their original recipes, others have seen alterations due to global entry challenges.
The global chocolate industry is grappling with a crisis. Drought in West Africa has led to a significant increase in cocoa bean prices, reaching $11,954 per ton by the end of 2024. This has forced producers to adapt their recipes to cope with rising costs.
At the 'Kommunarka' factory, some sweets have seen changes. The company has reduced the percentage of cocoa butter in certain products, replacing natural chocolate glaze with confectionery glaze in sweets like 'Zhinko'. These changes have been criticized by the Belarusian population, with Nestlé being the company producing the cheaper sweets.
However, not all sweets have been affected. Classic favorites such as 'Stolichnye', 'Krasnaya Shapochka', 'Truffles', 'Minschanka', and 'Pechka' still maintain their original recipes from 60 years ago. The factory also offers a range of chocolate sweets with natural glaze for consumers prioritizing quality, like 'Lyubimaya Alenka' and 'Mishka na polyane'.
The 'Kommunarka' factory continues to produce sweets catering to different price segments, with some products maintaining their original quality despite global entry pressures. However, changes in certain sweets due to the cocoa bean crisis have drawn criticism from consumers.
