Large summary for July 31: Launch of Ather 450S with expanded battery, introduction of new Tesla dealership, and additional updates
New Ather 450S Electric Scooter Launched in India with Larger Battery Pack
Ather Energy, an Indian electric vehicle manufacturer, has expanded its lineup with the launch of a new version of the Ather 450S electric scooter. The latest model comes equipped with a larger 3.7kWh battery pack, offering a higher claimed range of up to 161 km per charge compared to the base 2.9kWh battery variant's 121 km.
The new Ather 450S retains its original performance specs, including a 5.4 kW motor that produces 22 Nm of torque. Riders can choose from four modes on the new scooter: Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport.
The new 3.7kWh variant is priced at ₹1,45,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). It joins the existing base 2.9kWh battery variant and the mid-tier Stack Pro variant in the Ather 450S lineup. The base variant is now priced at ₹1,21,889, while the Stack Pro variant retails at ₹1,36,499.
The new 3.7kWh battery variant has been launched recently, with bookings open across India and deliveries expected to begin in August 2025.
Ather Energy's current electric scooter offerings also include the Ather 450X and 450 Apex models, which share the 3.7kWh battery pack but are higher-end variants. A new model called Rizta, positioned below the 450 series to be Ather's most affordable scooter, is expected to be unveiled soon but is not yet available for purchase.
In a separate development, MG Motor has increased the prices of the Astor SUV by up to ₹19,000 across all variants. The new price range for the Astor SUV is ₹11.48 lakh to ₹17.63 lakh (ex-showroom). The Astor SUV is now offered exclusively with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Meanwhile, Tesla is planning to open a second dealership in India, located in Delhi's Aerocity. The new dealership is near the Indira Gandhi International Airport and will cater to customers in Delhi, Gurugram, and Faridabad. Construction on the new Tesla dealership is nearly complete, and it is expected to be fully operational in the coming months.
Prices for Tesla models in India have also seen increases. The base Sprint MT variant is now priced at ₹11.48 lakh, an increase of ₹18,000. The Sharp Pro MT variant has a price of ₹15.34 lakh, after a ₹13,000 increase. The Select CVT variant now comes at ₹15 lakh, following a ₹15,000 hike. The Shine MT variant has seen the steepest increase of ₹19,000, bringing its price to ₹12.67 lakh. The Select MT variant is now priced at ₹14 lakh, with an increase of ₹18,000. The top-of-the-range Savvy Pro CVT variant is now priced at ₹17.63 lakh, after a ₹17,000 revision.
The new Ather 450S Electric Scooter's larger battery pack allows it to compete with other electric vehicles in terms of range, as it offers a higher claimed range of up to 161 km per charge. On the other hand, the increasing prices of Tesla models in India might suggest a shift towards more affordable gadgets and electric vehicles, such as the upcoming Rizta scooter from Ather Energy or affordable cars like those produced by MG Motor.
