Bavaria has temporarily lost its title as the federal state with the most public charging points to North Rhine-Westphalia. However, the launch of a new charging park at Munich Airport could help Bavaria regain its lead.

The charging park, located in parking garage P44, boasts 275 new charging points. This project, managed by The Mobility House, was officially opened in October 2021.

The energy for the charging park comes, in part, from two new solar installations on the roof of the parking garage and the neighboring one. This initiative is a clear sign for climate protection, as praised by Bavarian Finance Minister Albert Füracker.

The charging park at Munich Airport will also contribute to Bavaria's total installed capacity. Prior to the launch of this charging park, Bavaria was still ahead in the number of fast chargers and total installed capacity.

The airport has invested around 5.2 million euros in this project so far. Airport CEO Jost Lammers described the charging park as "an important part of the airport's climate protection strategy."

Each charging point at the park is capable of up to 22 kilowatts. The launch of this charging park at Munich Airport may help Bavaria regain its lead in the number of fast chargers.

This charging park at Munich Airport is not just significant for Bavaria's climate protection efforts, but it also serves as a potential model for further construction projects throughout the airport campus and beyond.

As of August 1st, North Rhine-Westphalia had 34,063 registered charging points, while Bavaria had 33,909. The gap between the two states is 154 charging points. With the addition of the new charging park, Bavaria is poised to regain its title as the federal state with the most public charging points.

This development underscores the growing importance of electric vehicles and sustainable energy solutions in Bavaria and beyond. The charging park at Munich Airport is a testament to the commitment of Bavaria and Munich Airport towards a greener future.
