VinFast Expands into Tamil Nadu and Launches Showroom in Surat

In a significant move, Vietnamese automobile manufacturer VinFast has opened its first dealership in Tamil Nadu, marking a step forward in its plans to establish a broader retail and service network in India. The showroom, operated by Maansarovar Motors, is located in Tamil Nadu and is the largest among the 35 outlets VinFast plans to open across 27 cities by the end of the year.

Speaking about the decision to enter Tamil Nadu, Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, cited the state's industrial base and infrastructure as key factors.

Meanwhile, the showroom in Surat, Gujarat, which was inaugurated earlier, is another step in VinFast's Indian expansion. The Surat showroom will display VinFast's upcoming electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7. Pre-bookings for these models began on July 15, and customers can reserve vehicles online or at the showroom for a refundable amount of ₹21,000.

VinFast's upcoming electric vehicles include the VF9, VF7, VF8, VF e34, VF3, and VF6. While the VF9 was confirmed for debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 starting in January, it is not currently listed as part of the initial Indian lineup with a confirmed launch date. The VF9 is expected to be introduced in India sometime after the VF6 and VF7, but no specific official launch date for the VF9 in India has been announced as of mid-2025.

In addition to its focus on electric vehicles, VinFast has partnered with Indian clean-tech startup BatX Energies for a battery recycling initiative, which is part of its broader sustainability strategy in India. This partnership aims to promote battery recycling and support the development of a circular battery value chain.

VinFast has also signed agreements with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure for support infrastructure for charging and after-sales services. The showroom in Surat, Gujarat, spans 3,000 square feet and offers immersive product experiences, seamless vehicle purchase journeys, and after-sales support.

The VF9, when launched, will boast a 123 kWh usable battery capacity, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque, enabling acceleration from 0-60 mph in about 6.6-6.7 seconds. It offers an EPA-rated driving range of 531 km (330 miles) for the Eco trim and 468 km (291 miles) for the Plus trim. The VF9 supports fast charging, reaching 10% to 70% charge in about 35 minutes using a Level 3 DC fast charger. Inside, it has a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and advanced safety features including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system.

As of now, VinFast has not yet announced the location of its first EV plant in India. However, with the opening of its first showroom in India and partnerships with various Indian companies, VinFast is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian automobile market.

  1. VinFast, renowned for its focus on electric vehicles, has partnered with Indian clean-tech startup BatX Energies for a battery recycling initiative, aiming to promote battery recycling and support the development of a circular battery value chain.
