Apple's Upcoming AirPods to Feature Live Translation and More

Apple is set to enhance its AirPods lineup with a new feature: live translation. According to recent findings, the Live Translation feature will be activated on the upcoming AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 by pressing both AirPod stems simultaneously.

This gesture-based activation method was discovered in the iOS 26 beta 6 code, suggesting that Apple is working on integrating real-time translation of in-person conversations directly through these AirPods models.

The Live Translation feature, currently available in iOS apps like FaceTime, Messages, and Phone, will expand its capabilities to hands-free conversations when implemented on AirPods. It's worth noting that this feature is expected to be limited to devices supporting Apple Intelligence, such as the iPhone 15 Pro or later, compatible iPads, and Macs with M1 or newer Apple Silicon chips.

The AirPods Pro 2, which have previously received software updates adding hearing aid and health features, are likely to receive an update enabling Live Translation through a stem-press gesture. This aligns with Apple's approach of continuously improving its AirPods with new features.

In addition to Live Translation, the AirPods are also expected to offer improved call quality and the ability to pause media when the user falls asleep. Furthermore, the AirPods will soon have the Camera Remote feature, allowing them to function as a camera shutter control.

While the launch timeline for the AirPods Pro 3 remains unclear, with some analysts predicting a 2023 release, no new features for this model have been mentioned. Similarly, the iPhone 17 range is expected to launch alongside iOS 26 in September, but no new features for this series have been announced either.

It's important to note that this article is based on the available information and speculations, and Apple has not officially confirmed these features or their release dates.
