Lucid Air now includes Android Auto functionality through an over-the-air update.
In a significant move to enhance connectivity and convenience for its customers, Lucid, the luxury electric vehicle manufacturer, has rolled out Android Auto support for its Lucid Air models. The update, part of Lucid OS 2.7.0, was announced by Dr. Jean-Philippe Gauthier, Head of Software Engineering at Lucid.
This update allows Lucid Air owners to access Google Maps, music apps, messaging services, and other compatible Android Auto features directly from their smartphones on the vehicle's interface. The connectivity is facilitated through the vehicle's 34-inch "Glass Cockpit" display.
To set up Android Auto on a Lucid Air, follow these steps:
1. Ensure Your Phone Compatibility: Your Android phone must be running Android 9.0 or newer. For wireless Android Auto, your phone should have Android 11 or later and an active data plan is required.
2. Connect Your Phone: You can connect your phone either wirelessly or using a USB cable. For USB connection, plug your phone into a USB port located in the center console or rear console of the Lucid Air.
3. Enable Android Auto on Your Phone and Vehicle: When connecting for the first time via USB, a prompt will appear on the Lucid Air’s driver display. Tap **Confirm** to launch Android Auto. If using wireless connection, ensure your phone is already paired with the vehicle’s Bluetooth. Then go to **Settings > Connectivity > Devices** on the vehicle’s interface and make sure the Android Auto icon next to your phone’s name is gold (enabled).
4. Launch Android Auto on the Vehicle Display: Android Auto will be projected onto the Right Cockpit Panel of the Lucid Air’s 34-inch Glass Cockpit display. You can manually launch Android Auto by tapping the **Android Auto button** on the Right Cockpit Panel.
5. Using Android Auto Features: Once connected, you can access Google Maps, music apps, messaging, and other compatible Android Auto features directly through the vehicle interface, enhancing your driving experience.
The Android Auto feature was introduced via an over-the-air (OTA) update and is available for all Lucid Air vehicles in North America and Europe. If the Android Auto icon does not appear, try deleting and re-pairing your device, then confirm the prompt again.
This update builds upon Lucid's commitment to compromising nothing by enhancing comfort and convenience for owners. Android Auto does not currently integrate vehicle-specific data such as battery state-of-charge or pre-conditioning functions in Lucid Air, so EV-specific trip planning features may not be available through Android Auto’s Google Maps interface.
Drivers can now enjoy a more connected and convenient driving experience with Android Auto in their Lucid Air. The support for Lucid's upcoming Gravity SUV is expected "soon," according to the company.
