Maersk Expands Mexico Logistics with New Tijuana Facility for Cross-Border Auto Parts
A.P. Moller - Maersk (Maersk) has expanded its logistics footprint in Mexico, opening a new facility in Tijuana. This strategic move aims to bolster cross-border automotive parts shipments between Mexico and the United States.
The new facility, located in Prisma XII, Pacifico Industrial Park, offers a range of services including sorting, storage, cross-docking, inventory management, packaging, repackaging, and order fulfilment. It is part of Mexico's Immex programme, allowing temporary import of goods for manufacturing, processing, or repair with subsequent export or export services.
Maersk considers this facility critical for cross-border automotive parts shipments due to its proximity to major commercial ports, including Otay and San Ysidro. The company provides transport services to and from the facility in collaboration with third-party suppliers, as Mexican regulations dictate.
Maersk's expansion in Tijuana is part of its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Mexico. The company already operates 150,000 sq.m of logistics space across the country, with warehouses in Mexico City, Tijuana, and Cuautitlán, and depots near ports in Lázaro Cárdenas and Manzanillo. Maersk plans to further expand its capabilities in Guadalajara and Monterrey, and enhance its landside capabilities for Mexico-US cross-border trade. DHL supports this expansion to help customers better manage cross-border trade.
The new Maersk facility in Tijuana, with its comprehensive suite of services and strategic location, is set to significantly enhance the company's cross-border logistics capabilities. This expansion aligns with Maersk's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Mexico and support the growing automotive industry.
