The Smart brand, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, is set to launch its latest offering – the Smart #5 – in Europe this summer. Priced at €45,900, this premium electric midsize SUV is poised to make waves in the automotive market.

Designed by Mercedes-Benz's design team, the Smart #5 boasts a memorable design that may be a matter of taste. However, its sleek and modern look is undeniably striking. The vehicle is positioned as a premium addition to the Smart model lineup, offering high-quality materials and a Sennheiser sound system that rivals that of the S-Class.

Under the hood, the Smart #5 packs a punch. The base model comes equipped with a 76 kWh LFP battery, a 400-volt system, and a maximum charging power of 150 kW. For those seeking more power, higher-end versions of the Smart #5 feature an 800-volt architecture, a 100 kWh battery, a maximum charging power of 400 kW, and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

The Smart #5's performance is equally impressive. With two motors delivering 432 kW of power (almost 590 PS), the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km/h.

One of the standout features of the Smart #5 is its infotainment system. Equipped with two massive OLED displays, an augmented reality graphics head-up display, and a Smartbot with conversational skills akin to Chat GPT, the vehicle offers a cutting-edge in-car experience.

The Smart #5 is not just a city car. Despite its sporty claims, it is good-natured and friendly in everyday life. It offers ample legroom in the rear, with a 2.90-meter wheelbase, more than a long E-Class. The vehicle's nearly expedition-ready trunk provides over 1600 liters of cargo volume, making it a versatile choice for both city and suburban dwellers.

However, the Smart #5's competition may find it hard to keep up. With its premium features, impressive performance, and spacious interior, the Smart #5 stands out in a crowded market. It competes with the VW group's MEB family, Mercedes EQA, and EQB, but its unique combination of style, performance, and practicality sets it apart.

In an interview, Dirk Adelmann, European chief, promised a successor to the Fortwo from Mercedes and their Chinese partner Geely. With the Smart #5, it seems the future of Smart is electric and exciting.

The Smart #5 is now available for order in Germany, with a starting price of €45,900. At this price, the Smart #5 is more expensive in Germany than in China, where it retails for 239,900 yuan. However, with its premium features and impressive performance, the Smart #5 is sure to be a hit among discerning customers across the globe.
