The Mazda EZ-60 SUV, a strategic model developed for the global market, has been generating significant interest since its unveiling at the Shanghai auto show on April 23, 2025. The vehicle, which will be produced at Changan Mazda’s upgraded Nanjing plant, has already accumulated over 38,000 pre-orders by early August 2025[1][2][3].

The rapid uptake began with 10,060 pre-orders within the first 48 hours and continued to grow, reaching 20,000 by mid-May. This strong pre-order interest indicates sustained customer enthusiasm for the EZ-60.

Production of the EZ-60 commenced on August 4, 2025, at the Nanjing plant, where a dedicated production line was set up with an investment of nearly 200 million yuan (approximately $27.9 million USD) to support the vehicle's aerodynamic design and quality traceability systems[1][3].

The EZ-60 will be offered in two main powertrain options at the market launch planned for the end of September 2025 in China:

  • Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) variant: a purely electric model powered by a full electric battery system.
  • Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variant: a partially electrified version featuring a range extender to provide additional driving range beyond the battery capacity[1][2].

As a global model, the EZ-60 leverages Mazda’s new energy vehicle (NEV) strategy with contributions from engineering teams across China, Japan, and Europe[3]. It incorporates Mazda’s “Kodo” design language and advanced cockpit technology.

The launch of the EZ-60 is a significant step forward for Mazda's global NEV market strategy. With the EZ-60, Mazda aims to expand its presence in the global electric vehicle market, following the success of its first global model produced at the Nanjing plant.
