Meta Unveils AR Glasses, Set to Dominate Market by 2025

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) unveiled its latest augmented reality (AR) glasses at its annual Meta Connect event in 2025. The new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, priced at $800, feature built-in display technology and support for Meta AI and other built-in apps. The event showcased Meta's progress in AR, VR, and AI products, with the company following a typical consumer electronics adoption curve for its AI glasses sales.

Meta's AI glasses sales are projected to grow significantly in the coming years. In 2023, the global shipments of AI glasses were around 410k units. By 2025, this number is expected to surge to 5.1 million units, a more than 10x increase. Meta's share of this market is also set to grow exponentially, with projections suggesting it could reach 4 million units in 2025, accounting for approximately 80% of the market share.

The new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses are priced competitively with other high-end AR glasses. Meta also launched lower-priced alternatives, the Ray-Ban Gen 2 glasses starting at $379 and the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses at $499. These glasses support pairing with Meta's Neural Band for hand gesture-based navigation using surface electromyography sensing, demonstrating Meta's commitment to innovative AR experiences.

The Meta Connect event highlighted Meta's advancements in AR, VR, and AI technologies. The company's AI glasses are expected to dominate the market in the coming years, with significant growth in shipments and market share. As the innovators adopt these new technologies, the potential for exponential growth and widespread adoption is high. Meta's investment in AR glasses positions it as a leading contender in the future AR market.
