Meta's AR Glasses Ray-Ban Display Launch on September 30
Meta, the tech giant behind Facebook and Instagram, is set to release its latest augmented reality (AR) glasses, the Ray-Ban Display, on September 30. Priced at $799, these meta stock glasses are a collaboration with luxury eyewear brand Ray-Ban. The project is co-developed by Palmer Luckey, the creator of the Oculus Rift VR headset and former Meta employee.
The Ray-Ban Display glasses offer a runtime of six hours, extendable up to four times with the charging case. They boast a 20-degree field of view at 600 by 600 pixels, with a maximum brightness of 5,000 nits. The right lens displays content such as text messages, navigation instructions, photos, music controls, and results from Meta's AI service.
Control is primarily via the 'Neural Band', a wristband that recognizes gestures. The glasses also feature a 12-megapixel camera for photos and 1080p video recording. Meta is moving away from classic apps, focusing instead on AI as the central interface for daily life. The 'Live AI' feature, due to roll out in the coming months, uses AI to provide solutions, relevant information, and draft messages during conversations. Video calls with an embedded conversation perspective and live subtitles with translations are also possible.
The Ray-Ban Display glasses, a result of Meta's shift towards AI-centric interfaces, offer a blend of style and functionality. With a runtime of up to 24 hours and a wide range of features, these meta stock glasses are set to enhance daily life, starting from September 30.
