Mexico's Leading Virtual Production Studio Adopts Brompton Technology
In the heart of Mexico City, Simplemente, a pioneering virtual production studio, has celebrated the one-year anniversary of its state-of-the-art LED stage at Estudios Churubusco. This innovative space, optimised for high-end virtual production and LED stage work, has been transforming the local filmmaking landscape since its inception.
The LED stage, boasting a staggering resolution of 14252x2582, offers almost five times the resolution of a 4K screen. It features a 270-degree immersive screen constructed from 2,153-square-foot (200-square-meter) high-density LED panels. Powered by Brompton Technology's Tessera SX40 LED video processors, these panels deliver high-quality, versatile visual content in real-time.
The integration of advanced technology, such as the Assimilate Live FX media server, enables the seamless blending of virtual environments with live-action filming. This setup supports dynamic, flexible, and efficient production workflows, reducing post-production time and enhancing creative possibilities for commercials, film, and other media projects.
The upgraded LED stage has been a game-changer for Simplemente, having recently wrapped shooting two seasons back-to-back of the upcoming Amazon Prime original series Cada Minuto Cuenta (Every Minute Counts). The studio has also filmed multiple commercials, a reality game show, and Mexico's second presidential debate using its LED stage at Estudios Churubusco.
The democratization of virtual production has been rewarding for Simplemente, enabling various people to try it for the first time. The real-time rendering of complex virtual environments displayed on the LED walls, the improved integration of live-action and virtual sets, and the reduced reliance on traditional green screens all contribute to enhancing realism and lighting consistency.
Moreover, the enhanced creative control and production efficiency offered by the LED stage enable immediate visualization and adjustment of scenes during shooting. This innovative facility in Mexico City is now a resource for the broader filmmaking community.
Adam Callaway, global lead of virtual production and broadcast at Brompton Technology, is thrilled to support Simplemente in bringing top-tier virtual production to the Mexican market. The Brompton processors allowed Simplemente to do live color grading on the LED wall using 3D LUT, which was a creative benefit.
The record-breaking 16-plus million viewers tuned in to watch Mexico's second presidential debate filmed on Simplemente's LED stage, demonstrating the stage's potential to captivate audiences. The process of virtual production at Simplemente is more creative and collaborative, making it a powerful tool for modern filmmaking and advertising.
The series Cada Minuto Cuenta (Every Minute Counts) will premiere in late 2024, showcasing the capabilities of Simplemente's upgraded LED stage to a wider audience. The studio, founded by Mónica Reina and Rune Hansen in 2000, continues to be early adopters of Pro AV technology, offering production services, integration, training, and rentals to clients ranging from independent artists to production houses and film schools to major television networks across Mexico and Latin America.
