MGI Engineering's Low-Cost, Long-Range Drones Coming Soon to Ukraine

MGI Engineering, a company founded by former Formula One engineer Mike Gascoyne, is set to provide Ukraine with low-cost, long-range attack drones. The company's first offering, SkyShark, is expected to be deployed within weeks, with a heavier, longer-range model, Tiger Woods, to follow in about two months.

MGI Engineering is adapting motorsport technology to create loitering munitions for Ukraine. SkyShark, the initial model, is pitched as a sub-£400k alternative to multi-million-pound missiles. It can carry a 10-20 kg warload, travel up to 250 km, and reach top speeds near 450 km/h. The drone uses onboard target-acquisition guidance to find and dive onto selected targets.

Tiger Woods, the heavier model, is designed for longer missions and higher payloads. Ukrainian partners are involved in production planning for both SkyShark and Tiger Woods, with the aim to manufacture them in Ukraine once testing is complete.

MGI Engineering's efforts are framed as complementary to Ukrainian and NATO needs for lower-cost, long-range strike options. The company aims to produce effective payloads, solve navigation in GNSS-denied environments, and deliver systems in meaningful volume and at affordable prices.
