In a recent article seen by Business Insider on Tuesday, the spotlight has been cast on the salaries at Microsoft, one of the world's most valuable companies. The tech giant, with a market value of $3.769 trillion, ranks second in the global market.

Microsoft pays its software engineers a base salary between $82,971 and $284,000, slightly lower than the salaries offered by Google and Meta. However, the company offers competitive remuneration for other roles. For instance, data scientists can earn up to $274,500, and business analysts can earn up to $191,580.

The average salaries for different roles at Microsoft, based on their H-1B visa program filings for the fiscal year 2024, are as follows:

The typical mid-level Microsoft employee made approximately $193,744 in 2024. These figures represent base annual salaries and exclude additional compensation such as signing bonuses or stock options.

For comparison, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s total compensation in 2024 was $79.1 million, which is about 408 times the median employee’s salary, mostly consisting of stock-based compensation.

In other tech giants, Google CEO Sundar Pichai earned over $10.7 million in 2024, which is roughly 32 times more than the median Google employee's salary. Meanwhile, Google pays software engineers a base salary between $109,180 and $340,000, while Meta pays anywhere from $120,000 to $480,000.

Recently, Microsoft announced layoffs of 6,000 employees in May and plans to cut an additional 9,000 workers, totaling around 4% of its workforce.
