New Tram System in Osijek Gets a 18.5 Million Euro Deal with Končar

In a significant move towards modernizing its public transportation system, the City of Osijek and Croatian company Končar have finalized and agreed upon a contract worth 18.5 million euros for new trams as part of the city’s tram modernization project[1].

The contract, signed on July 27, 2025, represents a significant step in modernizing Osijek's tram system. However, specific details about the progress of the project beyond contract signing are not provided in the search results.

The Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, has highlighted Osijek as one of the largest "construction sites" in Croatia for transport infrastructure and modernization. He praised Osijek for its systematic positioning according to European standards of sustainable mobility and a healthier urban environment.

The contract falls under a Framework Agreement, marking a continuation of successful cooperation between Osijek and Koncár, starting from a previous contract signed in September 2023. The email subscription section is not relevant to the news article.

The new trams, along with their important subsystems, are the result of Koncár's own development. Multiple low-floor trams have already been handed over by Koncár, and it has been confirmed that only modern low-floor trams will be in service in Osijek, while the old models will no longer be operating on city streets.

Mayor of Osijek, Ivan Radić, stated that purchasing an additional 10 trams will increase the city's fleet to a total of 20 new low-floor trams. The Minister did not specify any new contract related to the modernization of Osijek's tram fleet or any new deadline for the implementation of transport infrastructure projects in Osijek.

Osijek is a positive example due to numerous investments being made in all aspects of transport, including road, air, maritime, and rail. The Minister did not mention any new company involved in the transport infrastructure projects in Osijek, nor did he mention any new tram delivery or purchase for Osijek's fleet.

The new trams, which are the result of Končar's own development, are a testament to the significant advancements in technology, modernizing Osijek's public transportation system. Under the Framework Agreement, this partnership between Osijek and Končar continues, marking a continuation of successful cooperation from the contract signed in September 2023.
