Nigeria's Web3 Boom: Africa's Leader with 4% Global Growth

Nigeria's Web3 developer community is booming, with the country leading Africa's ecosystem and accounting for 4% of new developers globally in 2024. Despite challenges, the sector is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.6% from 2024 to 2030.

The Nigerian Web3 landscape is dominated by young talent, with 86% of developers under 27 years old and over half joining within the last year. Despite the rapid growth, only 15% hold full-time positions, with most operating as freelancers. The surge in developers has seen Nigeria surpass other African nations in growth, reaching over 1.1 million developers in 2024, a 28% YoY increase.

Javascript is the preferred programming language, chosen by 50% of all developers. The sector is led by DeFi and payments, with around 35% working in these areas. Female participation has also surged to about 17% over the last three years. However, 90% of Nigerian Web3 developers earn below global standards due to local market conditions and currency depreciation.

Nigeria's Web3 developer community is thriving, with a young, dynamic workforce driving growth. Despite earning challenges, the sector is expected to continue expanding, solidifying Nigeria's position as a global leader in the Web3 ecosystem.
