Nintendo encounters issues following a recent Switch update; here's their response regarding the upcoming Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Affected by tech glitch
The anticipation for the highly-awaited Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled to launch on June 5, has been marred by a technical error. A firmware update for the original Nintendo Switch, aimed at smoothening the transition for users to the new console, has proven problematic for some.
After downloading the Switch Firmware Update Version 20.0.0 on April 29, some Switches started malfunctioning and displaying Error Code 2206-1015, rendering them temporarily inoperable.
Nintendo confirmed the issue on May 2 via its support Twitter account. The company expressed regret for the inconvenience and mentioned that it was looking into a solution. In response, Nintendo released firmware version 20.0.1 on May 2, specifically addressing the problems encountered in the previous version.
The system transfer function, included in the initial update, allows users with an original Switch to transfer their system data to the Switch 2 via local communication. Alternatively, users can upload their data to a dedicated server to retrieve it on the new console when it becomes available.
Aside from the transfer facility, the update also introduced several other changes, including the display of purchased digital Switch games, DLC, and free software as virtual game cards, game sharing functionality, and added security measures for virtual game cards.
Preorders for the Switch successor have already been sold out at retailers, but interested buyers can purchase the console directly from Nintendo, albeit with a possible delay in delivery after the launch date.
The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle is available for preorder, priced at $499. The bundle includes the Nintendo Switch 2 Console, a full game download of Mario Kart World, and various accessories.
