Nvidia Dominates AI Chip Market, Set to Launch Rubin GPUs in Late 2026

Nvidia continues to dominate the AI chip market, with an estimated 80% share. Despite competition from Chinese companies like Huawei and Baidu, as well as efforts by Palantir and C3.ai, Nvidia maintains its stronghold. The tech giant plans to launch its new Rubin GPUs in late 2026, promising a significant boost in AI performance.

Nvidia's success stems from its long history in GPU development and offering a comprehensive infrastructure for chips, networking, and software. Its latest deal with OpenAI, worth $100 billion, will further strengthen its position by enabling massive scale deployment of its latest GPU systems starting 2026.

Major cloud providers like Google and Amazon have developed their own processors, TPU and Trainium respectively, to reduce reliance on Nvidia. Google even offers its chips to third-party customers. However, Nvidia's competitors face challenges in catching up. Chinese companies are still not at Nvidia's technological level, while Palantir and C3.ai employ different strategies to gain market share. AMD, once Nvidia's main competitor, generates most of its revenue from CPU sales and cannot divert resources to challenge Nvidia's GPU dominance.

Nvidia's planned Rubin GPUs, set to launch in late 2026, promise a 7.5 times increase in AI performance compared to its current flagship products. Despite determined efforts from competitors, no expert predicts Nvidia loosening its grip on the AI chip market in the near future.
