Nvidia Unveils Major Updates to the Nvidia App: Simplified DLSS, Smooth Motion for RTX 40-Series, and Enhanced Project G-Assist

Nvidia has announced significant updates to its Nvidia App, bringing a host of new features and improvements for GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs. These updates, currently in beta, are set to be rolled out to the general public in the coming days.

The updates aim to simplify the gaming experience by streamlining the use of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and introducing AI-driven technologies such as NVIDIA Smooth Motion to a wider range of devices.

Simplified DLSS Usage

With the introduction of Global DLSS Overrides, users can now enable DLSS across all compatible games with a single toggle. This feature eliminates the need to configure DLSS on a per-game basis, making it easier for gamers to optimize their settings. The DLSS override status is also displayed in-game via the Alt+R statistics overlay.

Expanded Smooth Motion Support

Previously limited to RTX 50-series GPUs, NVIDIA Smooth Motion is now available for RTX 40-series GPUs. This AI-driven technology enhances gameplay smoothness in games that lack native DLSS Frame Generation support, potentially doubling the perceived frame rate. It works alongside DLSS Super Resolution or other upscaling technology at native resolution.

Project G-Assist Enhancements

Project G-Assist, an AI assistant that helps optimize and control gaming PC settings through voice or text commands, is now available for all GeForce RTX GPUs with 6GB+ VRAM, including laptops. The assistant’s AI model has been optimized to use 40% less memory without losing responsiveness. It is smarter at selecting the right functions or plugins and benefits from new community-developed plugins from a recent hackathon.

Other Improvements

The updates also include several top-requested 3D settings previously only available in the Nvidia Control Panel (such as anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion). The Nvidia Surround multi-monitor setup has been integrated into the Nvidia app, and the update simplifies driver and app maintenance, enhancing usability for both gamers and content creators.

Beta Release and General Availability

The beta release of the Nvidia App featuring Smooth Motion and G-Assist starts today, August 19. A full public rollout is planned for the following week. Games without DLSS now benefit from higher frame rates due to Smooth Motion, and Nvidia is planning to refine Smooth Motion based on community feedback. More control is offered for legacy tweaks of classic titles.

These updates mark a significant step forward in Nvidia’s commitment to providing gamers with the best possible gaming experience. With simplified settings, global DLSS, expanded Smooth Motion support, and enhanced Project G-Assist, the Nvidia App is set to offer a more unified graphics settings experience, making it easier for gamers to optimize their settings and enjoy their games to the fullest.
