Parliamentary Officials Establish Tech Trust Caucus in Romania, Collaborating with Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue University
Tech-Savvy MPS Unite Across the Aisle for a brighter, Secured Future
Politicians from across the spectrum of Romanian politics, in partnership with the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue University, are teaming up to kickstart the first-ever Parliamentary Trusted Tech Caucus. This bipartisan group will tackle the challenges and possibilities presented by technological advancements, ensuring Romanians, businesses, and the country's security interests prosper and are protected from the malicious use of technology.
The Parliamentary Trusted Tech Caucus will convene regularly to discuss strategies, develop policies, hold hearings, and draft legislation while serving as a reliable resource for other Members of Parliament in understanding the tech-realm. They'll lean on the Krach Institute's global network of experts for guidance.
To celebrate this historic move, the Krach Institute held an exclusive gathering for Members of Parliament and industry leaders at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest. Len Khodorkovsky, former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Senior Advisor to the Krach Institute Chairman, and Alexandru Nazare, Board Member of the National Bank of Romania and Krach Institute Advisory Council member, spearheaded a discussion on the importance of innovation, deployment, and adoption of trusted technology in Romania and beyond.
Notable participants of the discussion included Amb. Adrian Zuckerman, former U.S Ambassador to Romania, Radu Piturlea, Executive Chairman of Concelex, and Brigadier General (Ret.) Dr. Cătălin Constantin Mihalache, Founder and CEO of B2S Black Sea Strategies.
"Technology plays a pivotal role in shaping Romania's future - its economic growth, national security, and influence in the Black Sea region," noted Len Khodorkovsky from the Krach Institute. "In tomorrow's economy, trusted technology will underpin about three-quarters of global GDP. The creation of Romania's Trusted Tech Caucus is a vital step in safeguarding that burgeoning tech advances strengthen Romania's democracy. By nurturing a reliable tech ecosystem, Romania will not only advance the interests of its people but also contribute to a safer, more resilient global technological landscape."
"To increase its competitive edge, Romania must close the digital divide posthaste. The expertise and international network of the Krach Institute, channeled through the Trusted Tech Caucus in Parliament, connects us to cutting-edge tech trends and facilitates venture capital investment in Romania," stated Alexandru Nazare, Board Member of the National Bank of Romania and President of Paneuropa Romania. "Simply being connected isn't enough – adopting the worldwide movement for responsible, secure, and democratic tech policies is essential to ensure our survival. To emerge as a leader in this new technological era, we must stretch ourselves – achieving our vision requires a coordinated strategy and an efficient single-window system that promotes economic growth via international collaboration."

The Romanian roadmap defined in the Digital Decade Country Report of the European Commission outlines essential 2030 objectives for the tech sector: 5,000 innovative digital SMEs, a 2% GDP contribution from innovation, and four Romanian-founded unicorns with a global presence and a base in Romania.
Industry leaders, representing top tech companies, and academic experts were present in support of the Trusted Tech Caucus. Representatives from Google, Oracle, Samsung, CrowdStrike, Maguay, Cluster Power, and more emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration in ensuring technological progress, growing the Romanian economy, and safeguarding national interests.
As a continued supporter of the caucus, the Krach Institute will provide training to Romanian MPs through its Tech Diplomacy Academy, a pioneering online platform utilized by the U.S Departments of State and Commerce, NATO, and prominent private sector companies to educate staff on the crossover between tech, business, and policy.
Romania's Trusted Tech Caucus will join an international network of legislative groups focused on trusted technology, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among like-minded countries on their use of advanced technology for the greater good.
