Pennsylvania Cat Rescue Horror: 71 Cats Rescued From Deplorable Conditions
A gap in Pennsylvania's animal cruelty laws has led to a distressing situation in Bensalem. CATS Bridge to Rescue, a cat rescue facility, was found in deplorable conditions, with its director, Susie M. Evans, now facing animal cruelty charges. The rescue planned to close, but the discovery has led to a swift intervention.
The Bucks County SPCA and Bensalem Animal Control rescued 71 neglected animals and kittens from the facility. They found chronic suffering, with the animals living among trash, debris, animal feces, and a strong urine smell. Fleas, flies, and ear mites were present, and some animals were actively scratching. Two kittens, unfortunately, died from a highly contagious virus after removal. The rescued animals are now receiving treatment for their ailments.
The rescue's director, Susie M. Evans, will face charges. This comes amidst a gap in Pennsylvania's animal cruelty laws, which do not license or inspect cat rescues like they do dog kennels and animal shelters. CATS Bridge to Rescue had planned to close at the end of the month, aiming to find forever homes for all its animals.
The SPCA is waiving adoption fees for October and accepting donations to the animal relief fund to help the rescued animals. The incident highlights the need for stricter regulations and inspections of cat rescues to ensure the welfare of these animals. The investigation into the incident continues.
