Power bank by Anker potentially hazardous: over 500,000 units recalled; here's the action required by owners

In a recent development, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an official warning regarding five Anker power banks that were voluntarily recalled in June 2025. The recall was issued due to reports of fire and explosion incidents, resulting in four minor burn injuries and substantial property damage.

The affected Anker power banks include Model A1647 (20,000mAh, 22.5W, USB-C cable), Model A1652 (10,000mAh, 7.5W), Model A1257 (10,000mAh, 22.5W), Model A1681 (20,000mAh, 30W, USB-C + Lightning), and Model A1689 (20,000mAh, 30W, USB-C). These power banks were sold between August 2023 and June 2025 at Best Buy, Target, and other brick-and-mortar stores nationwide, as well as online platforms such as Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Walmart, and TikTok.

Continuing to use a recalled power bank is not recommended due to risks of overheating, melting, smoke, or fire. If you own one of the recalled models, it is crucial to stop using the power bank immediately and verify the faulty model using Anker's online recall form.

Customers impacted by the product recall will receive a full cash refund or a gift card. Anker advises not to dispose of any faulty power bank before receiving confirmation of the recall. Instead, affected power banks with lithium-ion batteries require disposal at a household hazardous waste (HHW) depot.

The CPSC urges owners not to dispose of faulty power banks by normal means, including trash, recycling, battery recycling booths, or depots. It is recommended to contact the HHW beforehand to ensure they accept lithium-ion batteries; if not, contact the municipality for proper disposal information.
