Vodafone Expands Mobile Network in Salzland District
Vodafone, one of Germany's leading communications conglomerates, is set to expand its mobile network in the Salzland District by mid-2026. However, as of now, the exact number and types of construction projects remain undisclosed.
The expansion will involve activities such as installing new mobile network base stations, upgrading existing infrastructure to 5G, and enhancing fiber-optic broadband coverage. Vodafone's Chief Technology Officer, Tanja Richter, emphasises the importance of a robust mobile network for the quality of life, local economy, and jobs, as people heavily rely on it for various purposes.
Recently, Vodafone launched a new mobile network station in Schoenebeck (Elbe), eliminating a dead zone in mobile broadband coverage. This new station has connected approximately 3,000 residents and guests to Vodafone's mobile data highway. Notably, the new antennas support the latest variants of the emergency call technology AML and the disaster warning system Cell Broadcast.
The Cell Broadcast technology warns the surrounding population via smartphone in case of danger situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods. AML, on the other hand, automatically transmits the location of the caller to the emergency control center during an emergency call.
Vodafone currently operates 70 mobile network stations in the district, all of which are equipped with the mobile broadband technology LTE. Additionally, 50 of these stations also have the broadband technology 5G on board, enabling more than 95 percent of the inhabited areas in the district to be supplied with 5G.
Remaining stations without 5G will be gradually upgraded and converted to 5G stations. Vodafone's 5G network currently reaches more than 90% of the population in Germany.
Residents of the municipality of Bernburg (Saale) will benefit from these new expansions. Vodafone plans to implement three more mobile network construction projects in the district by mid-2026. The goal of the new Vodafone expansion offensive is to expand the existing mobile network.
