The FBI has awarded a significant $129.7 million contract to Leidos, aimed at bolstering the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division's Biometric Services program over the next five and a half years. This contract is a crucial step in modernizing and enhancing the FBI's biometric identification capabilities.

Leidos will provide crucial support to the CJIS FAST Biometric Services program, which forms part of the FBI's broader initiative to advance its biometric identification systems. The contract encompasses various aspects, including the enhancement of biometric services such as fingerprint analysis and other identification methods.

A key component of the contract involves the collaboration with CJIS to seamlessly integrate and operate these biometric services. Leidos has been working with CJIS since 2018 to develop and incrementally integrate the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, a comprehensive electronic repository of biometric and criminal history information.

The contract also incorporates an agile methodology and development operations concepts to foster a strong working relationship between Leidos and CJIS teams. This collaborative approach, established since early 2016, aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the biometric services development process.

In essence, this contract represents a significant investment in modernizing the FBI's biometric capabilities, further strengthening Leidos' position as a key partner in federal law enforcement technology infrastructure.

Leidos will work closely with the CJIS to integrate biometric services, focusing on advanced technologies like fingerprint analysis, as part of the FBI's general-news initiative to modernize biometric identification systems. The collaboration, which started in 2016, encompasses the agile methodology to develop and upgrade the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, a cornerstone of crime-and-justice efforts.
