Qatar Airways Makes History with Free In-Flight Internet via Starlink
Qatar Airways has made history by becoming the first airline in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to offer free in-flight internet using Starlink technology. Passengers on the Doha to London flight on October 22, 2024, enjoyed real-time communication, video streaming, and online gaming at an altitude of 10,000 meters.
The groundbreaking service is a result of Qatar Airways' partnership with SpaceX's Starlink. The airline has completed the installation of the Starlink in-flight internet system on its entire Boeing 777 fleet, comprising 54 aircraft, by the end of 2024. Initially planned to equip only three Boeing 777-300 aircraft with Starlink internet by the end of 2024, Qatar Airways expanded its plans due to high demand, ultimately covering twelve aircraft.
The airline aims to extend this service to its entire Boeing 777 fleet and Airbus A350 fleet by 2025. Passengers can now experience high-speed, low-latency internet at such high altitudes, revolutionizing the in-flight connectivity experience.
Qatar Airways' integration of Starlink in-flight internet marks a significant milestone in aviation technology. With the completion of the Boeing 777 fleet's upgrade and plans to extend the service to the Airbus A350 fleet by 2025, passengers can look forward to enhanced connectivity during their flights.
