Victory's in the bag for Telekom, thrashing the competition in the internet expansion race in good ol' Hutthurm. Come 2027, about 420 households will dance in digital delight with connections of up to 1 Gbit/s (Gigabit per second). Having inked a deal with the fine folk of Hutthurm, Telekom and the municipality are now smarter than a fox in love. The telecomm heavyweights are set to lay around 83 kilometers of fiber optic cable and have got 24 distributors at the ready. With this powerhouse of a network, Hutthurm folk can enjoy working, learning, video chatting, surfing, and streaming to their heart's content, all at the same damn time.
Max Rosenberger, Hutthurm's suave Mayor, waxed lyrical, "Citizens these days have an insatiable appetite for a robust internet connection. It's as essential as gas, water, and electricity. We've scored a huge win with Telekom on our side, giving us a digital edge and making Hutthurm a stellar place to live and work."
Lorenz Christian, Regional Manager for Deutsche Telekom, chipped in, "Hutthurm's trust is well-placed, and we'll be prompt with the project. Building and maintaining networks is what we're all about!"
Expansion in Action
The planning process has commenced, with civil engineering firms jostling for position, and materials being stockpiled. Simultaneously, permits will be obtained like a hotcake at a county fair. With all lines laid and distributors installed, the homes of Hutthurm will be connected to the sweet embrace of the Telekom network. After that, residents can book their new connections, and the party can truly begin.
Telekom's Network in Numbers
Telekom's fiber optic network stretches a staggering 650,000 kilometers, dwarfing Germany's 13,000-kilometer motorway network. This year, Telekom plans to weave another 70,000 kilometers of fiber optic wizardry, at a cost of over 80,000 euros per kilometer on average.
