Revamped battery notifications for headphones and earbuds now on Android devices
Google has recently updated the battery notifications for headphones and earbuds on Android devices, introducing a cleaner, more glanceable design with version 25.30.31 of Google Play services. The update, available for all Android devices since early August 2025, offers several key improvements.
New Design Highlights
The updated battery notifications now feature color-coded rings around each earbud and the charging case icons. These rings visually indicate battery levels, with green indicating a full charge, yellow for medium, and red for low battery levels. Additionally, small status icons have been added at the top of each ring, such as a lightning bolt to show charging, improving quick battery status recognition.
Another notable change is the addition of a partially filled green ring to show the charging status of the case. This feature was not present in earlier notifications. The traditional compact notification that lists all percentages in a single line remains unchanged.
Consistent User Experience
This redesign aligns with UI elements introduced in Android 15 QPR2 on Pixel devices, reflecting Google’s efforts to create a consistent and visually intuitive user experience across Android versions.
In summary, this update enhances readability and usability by using color and iconography to communicate headphone and earbud battery status more effectively.
Other Updates
In addition to the battery notification redesign, Google is also working on a revamped QR code scanner for Android. Further details about this update are yet to be announced.
