Russia Updates Taxi Vehicle List With Mix of Traditional and Electric Models

The Russian taxi industry has seen a significant update to its approved vehicle list, now featuring a mix of traditional and electric tsla. This change, orchestrated by the Ministry of Transport, leaves the industry with 22 models from six brands to choose from.

The list includes a variety of options, with nine Lada models such as Granta, Iskra, Vesta, Aura, Largus, Niva Legend, and Niva Travel. Additionally, there are five Moskvich models and three premium hybrid vehicles from Voyah, priced between 5.5 million to 10 million rubles. Notably, six electric cars produced in Russia are also included, namely Evolute I-PRO, I-JOY, I-SKY, I-JET, I-SPACE, and Moskvich 3e.

However, the viability of some models as city taxis is uncertain. Four off-road vehicles - Niva Legend, Niva Travel, Patriot, and Hunter - may not be well-suited for urban taxi use. Moreover, the lack of charging infrastructure and higher costs could hinder the adoption of electric cars in the taxi fleet. Another expensive model, the Sollers SP7, priced around 5 million rubles, might also face limited use due to its cost.

With around 800,000 vehicles in the Russian taxi fleet, the updated list provides more options, with Lada and Moskvich models accounting for less than 30%. However, the practicality of some models remains to be seen, and the industry will need to adapt to the new offerings and their respective challenges.
